Contracting & Purchasing Agent

The Contracting & Purchasing Agent is responsible for conducting competitive bidding processes, vendor selection, aggregating requisition requests, and placing orders for all goods purchased at the central level, under the direction of the Operations Manager.  Centrally procured goods may include, but are not limited to, various food items, office supplies, maintenance supplies, furniture, supplies for special projects, and/or any good which the BSC achieves an economy of scale when purchasing centrally.  S/he maintains a requisition database, documentation of all competitive bidding processes, requisition requests, and vendor purchase orders and ensures this information is readily accessible to BSC staff, house-level managers, and the Board.  The Contracting & Purchasing Agent is also responsible for communicating changes in vendors and product availability to the appropriate department and/or house-level managers, following up with vendors to address discrepancies between items ordered and received and/or damaged goods, and auditing purchasing trends to share with management and the Board of Directors.

Maintenance Crew Member

A Maintenance Crew member performs preventative maintenance, repairs, and capital improvement work at all BSC properties and coordinates with outside vendors brought in to provide services/repairs. S/he is expected to train student Maintenance Managers and crews in repair and maintenance techniques (by leading workshops, giving in-house consultations, etc.).  Working from written and oral instructions, s/he will be expected to perform independent repairs and be operational in at least two of the following areas: Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry, Heating and Mechanical, and/or Locksmithing. Supervision of student workers may be necessary.  S/he maintains computerized records of work done, and reports to management as necessary.  S/he coordinates dump runs and the regular services and repairs for the BSC vehicle fleet. S/he purchases and delivers materials as needed. S/he must be willing to carry a cell phone and respond to requests for emergency overtime, as needed.
