Member Resource Newsletter

June 22, 2016
Welcome! Hope y'all are having a great summer so far and enjoying the weather. Even though June is almost over, I thought I'd share this great wallpaper designed by PopArt Studio from Serbia.

In this short but sweet newsletter, we've got info on how you can help expand the restaurant hours on Northside (so it's not hella dead every weekend), a cool undergrad fellowship opportunity with Program YoUr Future, opportunities for yoga lessons with a volunteer instructor, and info on how to prep for the November elections. There's also a secret word sprinkled throughout this newsletter. Think you can figure it out? Give it a try and submit the word here, maybe you'll win some co-op swag.

1 HELP EXPAND RESTAURANT HOURS ON NORTHSIDE & DOWNTOWN BERKELEY

On Tuesday, June 28 (7pm at 2134 MLK Jr. Way), the Berkeley City Council will vote on whether to allow restaurants on Northside and downtown to remain open later, similar to on Southside.  This  represents a great opportunity to improve the quality of life for co-opers living on Northside or at Convent by allowing us to get food late at night.  If you want to help expand late night food hours, send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Subject: Let Restaurants Stay Open Later (Vote YES on Item 62)

Dear Berkeley City Councilmembers,
I am emailing you to express my support for allowing restaurants on Northside and in Downtown to remain open later.  Current city law requires many of these businesses to close unreasonably early, causing businesses to lose potential revenue and reducing quality of life for residents.  Instead, we should allow restaurants in these areas to remain open later in order promote economic development and allow residents to get food late at night.  Please vote yes on item 62.

2 PROGRAM YOUR FUTURE: UNDERGRAD FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY

Program yoUr Future introduces and prepares participants for the wide variety of high paying and exciting jobs in the fields of science, technology, engineering, physics, chemistry, and mathematics! The program is looking for people who are interested in assisting students in workshops conducted by Professors and Lab Scientists, working in teams on digital projects, and/or designing and conducting innovative activities on their own.

Wanna get involved? Apply!
The application will open late evening on June 16, 2016. We will accept and review applications on a rolling basis until our final deadline on Sunday, July 10, 2016. Here's a link to the application. Good luck!!

3 WANT YOGA LESSONS?

A yoga teacher is volunteering her time to any co-ops interested in taking yoga classes. Sound like something you'd be down to do with your housemates? If so, get in touch with her! Her name is Laura and you can reach her at This email address is being protected from spambots. 4 ARE YOU REGISTERED TO VOTE?

It's never too early to register! You should check on your voter status so you're good to go for the November 7th election. Registering is really easy, all you have to do is go to http://registertovote.ca.gov/ and fill out your info.

If you're not going to be in town on Nov. 7th, you have to register vote by mail - it's always worth re-registering if you're not sure if you're registered, what party you're in, or what address you're registered at!

That's all for this newsletter! Hope y'all enjoyed it. If you have any questions or submissions for the next newsletter, shoot me an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
