Member Resources Newsletter

September 23rd, 2016
PC: Maria Porter
Hey y’all,

Being in the BSC is such an awesome opportunity--you get to live with people you otherwise may never know, and developed lasting friendships with them. You get to come home to a house full of homies, where impromptu movie nights, study sessions, and late night hikes are always happening. You become a part of a community where people are there to support you with whatever you may be struggling with, and where you all can learn and grow together.
Being in the BSC has allowed me to get involved with different communities. In this short newsletter, there are some great opportunities for you to get involved with cooperative communities, within the BSC and beyond.

There’s an awesome space inviting y’all to connect them and show your support-- they’re a Latinx owned, cooperatively run coffeeshop, bookstore, and community events space called Hasta Muerte Coffee opening in Oakland, CA.

If you’re an artist or performer and identify as queer, check out Wilde’s Queer Emerging Arts Show!

Looking to get educated on Disability Justice? Check out the workshop at Rochdale!

Want free food and workshift credit? Grab a friend and join the BSC’s Thank-A-Thon, so you can thank alumni for keeping us running!

Know an awesome co-oper that goes above and beyond? Nominate them for the Co-oper of the Month Award! It takes less than 5 minutes and could make their day!

Cooperatively Yours,
Rainy

HASTA MUERTE COFFEE COOPERATIVE

Former Shermana and Kitchen Manager (2011-2013) Karina Soils, is starting a new cooperatively run coffeeshop, bookstore, and community events space called Hasta Muerte Coffee in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland, CA!

Hasta Muerte Coffee sees a need for a nurturing community space in a time of great displacement. Our vision is to open up a space where vibrant community, good coffee and social justice work meet. Above all, we want to inspire the communities we are a part of, especially young people, to share stories, histories and struggles that sustain the Town’s cultural legacy of resilience from people of color, queer folks, activists, and undocumented communities. Help support the collective project by becoming a backer on Kickstarter and sharing on Facebook to help spread the word!

Central-Level Workshift and FREE LUNCH!

The BSC will be hosting a Thank-A-Thon (sign-up here) this upcoming Monday (Nov. 7th) from 12:30-4. This is a fun opportunity for us to call up alumni that have donated to say thank you and generally chit-chat about why you love the BSC.

We are *not* fundraising.

Ask your workshift manager for workshift credit! (We are not offering pay or rent credit, only central level workshift credit.)
