Dear BSC Alumni,
Submit your letter(s) to be a Pen Pal for a graduating senior! We are including short, inspirational messages from alumni in care packages for our newest BSC graduates.
Being a BSC student has changed enormously as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Classes going online via zoom, virtual proctored exams, and professors struggling to adapt to remote teaching are prime examples of how the virus has reshaped academic learning as we know it. The class of 2021 has especially suffered from this, since they will not have the opportunity to engage with their final semester classes in-person or celebrate their extraordinary achievements with all their peers and faculty at graduation.
Despite this, our BSC Seniors are still looking forward to receiving their diploma (virtually) and diving into their future careers. To commemorate our graduates, we are once again launching the Alumni Pen Pal Program this semester for the class of 2021. This program aims for Alumni to write letters to give support and advice to our graduates as they determine their post-grad life paths. We want to include YOUR letters as a surprise in a care package for our graduate students in an effort to give hope and comfort during these trying times.
Last year the Pen Pal program was a HUGE success. Looking into their future in the face of the pandemic, our graduating seniors of 2020 were incredibly thankful to have received such encouraging messages from fellow BSC alumni in their care packages.
Here are some prompts to start you thinking about what to write in your letters (suggested 100-500 words)...
- What’s one thing you wish you knew after graduation? What’s something encouraging or helpful you could say to someone in the BSC graduating from college today?
- Rejection from job applications is common as a post-grad alum. How did you deal with job or internship rejections coming out of college, and how did you overcome it?
- What’s one thing that gives you hope during these uncertain times?
We hope you consider connecting with students in this meaningful way. Your engagement with these graduates will have a lasting impact on them for years to come, especially in these times of great uncertainty.
More information on guidelines for letter writing will be provided in future emails-- the final deadline to submit letters will be around mid-April. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Be safe and be well,
