F*** Hierarchies: Locating & Removing Forms of Hierarchy from Our Praxis

Led by Yejin Lee ( https://www.jeongllc.com/aboutyejin )

Thursday, April 24th from 5-7:15pm PST

Zoom registration link! Once you register, you'll receive a unique link to join the session. https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/da9A422-QV-UalTkBBHweQ

As an anti-oppression coach & facilitator, Yejin Lee (she/they) often supports individuals & institutions in understanding, recognizing, and undoing the ways in which oppressive conventions live comfortably and safely within the bounds of positional power and organizational hierarchy. But the creation and enforcement of hierarchy do not exist exclusively within these confines - these practices live and breathe in our personal lives, in our communities, in movement spaces, in how we relate to our comrades, in all the places and spaces because we have been conditioned and indoctrinated by life under racial capitalism and hyper-individualism. As more people commit to the deeply transformational work of liberation as they witness escalating colonial genocides, it is important for folks to generatively introspect to ensure they are materially embodying their values and removing the violence of hierarchical practices whenever they can!

During this 2-hour interactive digital workshop, Yejin will:

  • Facilitate discussion about the supposed utilities of hierarchy and the ways in which reliance on hierarchy can detract from and actively harm embodied liberatory work;
  • Identify different categories of hierarchies (e.g. speed & type of information processing) & discuss their oppressive roots/routes;
  • Support participants in identifying the ways in which hierarchy gets expressed (even in leftist/movement spaces);
  • Walk through introspective exercises to support participants in recognizing when and how they are invested in creating/enforcing hierarchies in relationship to others, and ways they can remove and replace those practices;
  • Facilitate a group brainstorm on practical tips/tools to hold everyone accountable for when they’re creating/enforcing hierarchies;
  • Incorporate play and lightness and wholeness throughout!

This workshop is for…

  • Folks who care about embodying their values in actionable, tangible, and material ways in all aspects of their lives;
  • Values-embodied sweeties who want to remove hierarchy from their everyday practices;
  • Cuties who want more support and guidance in being generatively introspective about their political praxis;
  • Pumpkin pies who are ready to reject colonialism, imperialism, capitalism!!

This workshop will center…

  • Folks of multiply-marginalized identities;
  • Comrades who have experienced oppressive harm through practices of hierarchy;
  • Anti-colonialism, anti-imperialism, anti-capitalism!!

This workshop will decenter…

  • Whiteness & white supremacy
  • Traditional forms and expressions of leadership
  • Professionalism

Additional Notes

  • Recording : This session will be recorded and made available to all registrants for 30 days following the event. Captions will be enabled, and the transcript will also be sent along with the recording. Since this is taking place via Zoom Meeting and will encourage interactivity, folks will have the option to request pausing the recording before they speak. The chat will also be shared, but Yejin will scrub everyone’s names from the document for added safety.
  • Follow-Up : All registrants will receive a comprehensive follow-up message, which includes the recording/transcript/chat/slide deck, additional resources (e.g. articles, podcast episodes), and a workbook to support internalization and application of the session.
