BSC President End of Year Message
WRITTEN BY CYN MACIAS-GOMEZ (BSC President)
Hey there folks!
I hope you all are taking care of yourselves this winter break after a semester of hard work! I am writing to you all to wish everyone a happy holiday season. It has been a trying year for many of us and although the new year brings lots of opportunity it is imperative to understand that we need each other to overcome the hardships ahead.
I am eager to jump on the new year with you all and work together for a better BSC and a strong sense of solidarity and community with one another. Thank you all for what you do for the BSC, the co-op is defined by us and our actions. I am extremely grateful for the countless ways we have shown up for each other this year, thank you for your tireless commitment to one another.
I hope you all have safe travels this break, have a happy holiday season, and please don't hesitate to reach out if you need anything!
Love,
Cyn

Already applied? How to re-apply:
If you applied after August 2023 and kept the link to your application, you can just edit the application. Most important is that you update your availability to coincide with the job.
- You should probably also take this time to spruce up your application. I made a page with some tips for filling out the application in a way that might get you interviewed.
- If you didn't keep the link, search your email for it. I have it set up to send confirmation emails. If you didn't get one, it might have gone to a hidden folder like "Updates" or (hopefully not) Spam. If neither of those, I think you can use the application link and if you're on the same machine and still have cookies, it will allow you to edit it. If none of that works, email me what jobs you're interested in and we'll figure something out.
If you applied PRIOR to August 2023, email me (hicom@bsc.coop) what jobs you're interested in and we can figure it out so you don't have to redo that application.
CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO MRN
SHARED BY SINCHAN CHATTERJEE (Member Resources Assistant)
“Tho' much is taken, much abides; and tho'
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.”
(“Ulysses,” Alfred Lord Tennyson)
Remember a time when you felt alienated and overwhelmed and simply wished to vent or talk to someone who simply understood you? Or a time you wanted to be surrounded by a group of people who skipped small talk and were dreaming about the meaning of life, sharing photos of sea waves or reading too many poems? How about times when you wished people said what they meant and meant what they said?
The BSC Member Resources Newsletter brings to you the opportunity to hear and be heard, to reach out to and connect with like-minded brains, to listen to the diverse stories of residents from different houses (potentially different continents, even). Think of it as a storehouse for preserving your memories.
What kind of submissions are we open to receiving and sharing in the newsletter?
- Do you have an obsessive thought you cannot get out of your head (whether it is death or stuffed toys)? Write to us about it!
- Do you sketch a lot and are looking for people to show it to? Send us your sketches and paintings!
- Is there a mesmerizing place you saw and clicked photos of that you would want everyone to see through your eyes? Send us the photographs!
- Is your phone memory bursting with too many hilarious memes? Share the laughter!
- Just perpetually angry and bitter with the capitalist hellscape that reduces humans to puppets? Simply rant to us!
In short, we look forward to publishing any form of expression that makes sense to you and helps you make sense of the world!
All art is resistance: it’s a brave and defiant scream that says “we are here, and we refuse to stay unseen!” Art bridges gaps and has the radical potential to ignite new flames and forge new connections. We cannot all be everywhere all at once, but art allows us to cross borders, to experience snapshots and absorb moments and live through innumerable stories. Here’s hoping that the BSC Member Resources Newsletter fosters a space that brings members together and creates lasting bonds.
Submissions can be sent to me (Sinchan Chatterjee) at mra@bsc.coop. We will be publishing these Newsletters biweekly, so keep your submissions coming!
I would also like to take this opportunity to announce that we hope to host a BSC Open Mic for members to physically come together, perform in front of an audience, and share their work with the rest of the BSC! That would be a great way to make new friends, find new readers for your work, maybe even create a band, or at least keep the dark of the all-consuming void at bay for a little while longer! If you are interested in sharing your poem, covering a song, doing a little stand-up comedy, or just sharing stories or memories of your life at BSC, feel free to write to me and I’ll make sure you know when we organize the event!
