Fellow Co-opers,
I hope you're all doing well! This month, we, ETCom, received several nominations for the Co-oper of the Month Award, and while we could only select one winner, we want to take a moment to recognize three incredible members for their leadership and dedication to our community.
In the past few weeks, these individuals have taken on one of the most challenging and high-stakes responsibilities in the BSC: leading and managing impeachment investigations, something our organization had not undertaken in 16 years. Their commitment to fairness, transparency, and cooperative values has been instrumental in ensuring due process and accountability at the highest level of our governance.
Maura Lievano (The Convent)
As Chair of the President’s Impeachment Committee, Maura has carried an immense responsibility with unwavering dedication and integrity. They have worked tirelessly to ensure that every step of the process adhered strictly to BSC policy, sacrificing countless hours, balancing this task alongside their demanding PhD studies. Their leadership has been crucial in maintaining transparency and fairness throughout this historic process. The impact of their work will be felt long after these hearings conclude.
Elizabeth Alptraum (Oscar Wilde House)
Elizabeth, as Chair of the VP of External Affairs Impeachment Committee, has shown exceptional perseverance and diligence in guiding this process. Drawing from their experience as a former Conduct Committee Chair, they navigated an incredibly high-pressure role with precision and care. Their commitment to upholding cooperative values and ensuring procedural integrity led them to spend countless hours—even working and facilitating a meeting that lasted until 3AM, to ensure that no detail was overlooked. Their leadership was instrumental in bringing clarity, structure, and accountability to this critical process.
Anais Perez (Sherman Hall)
Anais played an essential role in structuring and coordinating the impeachment investigation, ensuring its effectiveness from start to finish. Stepping into a process that had no recent precedent, she quickly became an indispensable leader, keeping records, managing procedural coordination, and ensuring that all discussions remained focused, organized, and policy-driven. More than just maintaining order, Anais demonstrated keen judgment, a deep understanding of cooperative governance, and an unwavering commitment to fairness. Her contributions were essential in ensuring the integrity and efficiency of this investigation.
A Historic Effort
The work that Maura, Elizabeth, and Anais have done in these impeachment investigations has set a historic precedent for accountability and cooperative governance in the BSC. Their dedication, resilience, and leadership have strengthened our community and upheld the values that make our cooperative unique. We deeply appreciate their hard work, and their impact will be long-lasting.
Thank you to Maura, Elizabeth, and Anais for your exceptional service to the BSC. Your efforts do not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for your commitment to our community!
Cooperatively,
Hamid Hakimi (he/him)
